Jean's lasting legacy
Friends and family of a mum who died suddenly in November have bought a gadget for St Peter's Hospital, Chertsey, in her memory.
Mourners of Jean Mitchell, from Woking, were asked to donate money for charity rather than buy flowers for her funeral. Those donations will be handed to the hospital for a suction unit, used for clearing a person's airways in an emergency.
It will always be in standby in the physiotherapy gym at St Peter's Hospital.
Friends say Mrs Mitchell was very appreciative of the support her husband, Edwin, got from the cardiac rehabilitation team at St Peter's Hospital, after valve surgery on his heart.
Her daughter, Denise, said: "Dad and I were very pleased to go up to the hospital and see the suction unit that they have bought. And it was nice to go to the beautiful Chapel Garden where Mum and I often waited when Dad was coming in for regular treatment."
Liz Murphy, cardiac specialist nurse said the physiotherapy gym is used by all kinds of patients, including a twice-weekly cardiac rehabilitation scheme, which Edwin benefited from.
Liz said: "This will be a very useful addition to our resuscitation trolley and we do thank all those who contributed in her memory."
Mrs Mitchell was well known in the Woking area, having worked in the town centre branch of Sainsbury's for 25 years before her retirement.
