RADIO WEY goes FM across the local area

Posted by Radio Wey on Sep 14, 08 08:40 PM in Charity/voluntary

The regulator OFCOM have granted the hard working volunteers of Hospital Radio Wey an FM channel to broadcast their superb variety of music & local information programmes.

With a strong commitment to the local community and a passion to broadcast information that is relevant to listeners across the area the Chertsey based radio station will be pulling out all the stops from 16 October through to 12 November.

The Restricted Service Licence is the latest step taken by this fast growing radio station towards a full Community Radio Licence. Radio Wey is constantly updating its facilities to meet its increasing listener base and this special broadcasting period will be a powerful mix of entertainment.

There will be 'Live' acoustic 'local' bands & musicians in the studios and a live link up's with local events. Celebrity phone-ins and visits and input from your local newspaper to provide up to date news from across the region.

You will be able to hear live commentary and up-dates from your local teams and phone in for the chance to win some of the many CD's and prizes on offer. Watch out for the flyers and posters.

If you wish to get involved in this great occasion, either by coming in for a chat about your organization, or to promote your club or business, call Keith Tunnicliffe on 01784 464234 or visit www.radiowey.co.uk

We'd like to hear from you.

Im a bit confused - I thought Radio Wey FM was now called Brooklands FM.

What's happening?

Hello David, just to explain maters Radio Wey was borne out of Hospital Radio Wey and has been broadcasting to the area for 43 years and has been broadcasting on the internet 24/7 for the past 3 years with a huge audience.
Radio Wey Fm was set up to celebrate 40 years of HRW broadcasting and was very succesful. The people who set up Radio Wey FM then decided to go there own way[with out boring you with all the tricks and lies that were used at the time] they now call themselves Brooklands Fm and broadcast from a shop in Addlestone and can only broadcast during shop opening hours on the internet untill Christmas. Despite many overtures from HRW to make this a joint venture they have scorned it and decided that they can make it on there own [goodness knows why]. So in essence there is only one original Radio Wey and that is this one and we are actively seeking a permanent community radio licence to allow us to broadcast on the FM band for the next 6years. So stay with www.radiowey.co.uk as we have been around for 43 years and intend to stay. We have just spent nearly £70,000. 00. on our Studios and they are probalby the best in Surrey, if you would like to visit us let me know and I can arrange it for you. Hope this helps and that you have not been hoodwinked into believing you have been listening to us all along. Stuart Jones. Chairman Radio Wey.

Thank you - I've been listening to Brooklands on-line - they seem very good.

I thought they were coming back on the radio.

Brooklands has applied for a community license, as has Radio Wey. It's a case of 'may the best station win'.

RE; Newsroom Hack. If you are involved with the press you should get your facts right, Brooklands have not applied for a licence and indeed they cannot at the moment as there Studio and Transmiter are inside the M25 and applications for this area have not been invited yet. But yes Radio Wey have, so it is a shame that you cannot publish under your own name and not hide. These are the bare facts. Stuart Jones Chairman Radio Wey.

Yes this is correct, Brooklands FM are currently in Region 8 as they are based above Cosmic Radio in Addlestone. Stations in Region 8 which includes Greater London and the area within the M25 have not been invited by Ofcom to make an application and no date has yet been set. However Radio Wey is in Region 7 and they have been invited to make an application for the Community Radio Licence. These are the facts.
