THERE can hardly be a more relaxing or sophisticated dining venue in Chertsey town centre than 163 Chertsey Kitchen.
The eatery, in the heart of Windsor Street, is a food venue with a difference. Classic English and Oriental food is served with a twist in settings far removed from the bustling street two floors below.
I visited the restaurant and bar last week and tried out a couple of its main courses to see if the food matched the ambience. And I can say without doubt that it did.
The dishes my fellow diner and I chose to sample were the pan-fried sea bass with roast fennel rosemary and saute potatoes served with a salsa verde and and a Thai red swordfish and prawn curry with fragrant rice.
A LOCAL children's charity has picked up a ã1,500 donation from Foxhills Hotel, in Ottershaw.
The Children With Special Needs Foundation collected the money after a fund-raising drive by Kerry Lagden and the gym team at the country club.
It is the latest in a long line of money making events in aid of the Chobham-based charity that supports individuals, groups and schools, helping them to buy equipment, holidays and tuition.
Marc Hayton, managing director of Foxhills, took over as patron for the charity earlier this year after the death of the previous patron, his father Ian.

So far, 40 residents of Staines Lane have signed the document to force the hand of bus company Abellio, which is allowing drivers of its 461 bus to turn round and wait in the road.
Residents say the buses are increasing air and noise pollution in the street and making traffic accidents more likely.

LORRY drivers have been told to be on the lookout for diesel thieves after ã500 worth of the fuel was syphoned from two vehicles parked overnight in Chertsey.
The lorries were parked in St Peter's Way on Tuesday, September 14, and Wednesday, September 15, when the incidents happened.
More than 400 litres were stolen in total with the perpetrators hidden from the view of passing drivers by stealing from fuel tank filler caps on the left-hand side of lorries.
Runnymede Neighbourhood Inspector Roger Nield said: "This crime is happening to vehicles parked up on the road overnight.
"The drivers are asleep in their cabs at the time and, while we are aware of the incidents, we need the public to keep their eye out and let us know if they see anything.
