POLICE in Runnymede are urging boat owners in Chertsey not to leave valuables on their crafts after a series of break ins over the Christmas period.

Moored boats make an attractive target for thieves as they are often unoccupied and now police are hoping the owners will help them to lower the rate of thefts.

Last month officers have received reports of four incidents involving boats moored off Bridge Road, which all took place between 6pm and 8.30pm on Monday, December 20.

On behalf of myself and everyone at the Herald and News have a very merry Christmas.

CHERTSEY was plunged into darkness on Saturday afternoon as 1,000 homes lost power.

An attempted cable theft in Staines Road cut power to the town, hitting many businesses on their busiest day of the year.

Some businesses were forced to close and other had to turn staff away until UK Power Network restored power to many of the stores in Guildford Street after more than an hour.

Get in touch with the Surrey Herald if you've decked your house in lights and decorations. We can come down, take some photos and get you in the paper.

Or even shame your neighbours if they have leapt past the bounds of good taste.
