Chertsey residents' 'parking nightmare' comes true
A GROUP of Chertsey residents' parking nightmares came true this week when double yellow lines were slapped down in their road.
For those who live in Charles Street it means a battle to be able to park outside their own houses.
They share the road with Compass House, which has an entrance to its car park on the street, and the residents claim their lives are about to become impossible.

Ed Raven, 44, has lived in the road for 15 years and thinks this spells misery for him and his neighbours.
He said: "This road is already used as free parking by people using Chertsey Station and people in the nearby flats and now we have lost space for more than a dozen cars thanks to these yellow lines.
"We are now going to have to rush home from work just to attempt to get parked near our own homes.
"It is packed as it is, with less spaces it will be a nightmare.
"We are told by Surrey County Council these lines are needed to give access to Compass for lorries and to give passing room for other vehicles, but the road has been like that for years and there is no problem with cars passing."
Mr Raven, a software manager, added that without residents parking Chertsey could become a very difficult place to live.
He said: "There are less and less places for people to park in Chertsey which is why people park in roads like ours, if residents parking areas are not brought in soon it is only going to get worse.
"I'm sure we will not be the last to get double yellows."
Compass House declined to comment when approached by the Surrey Herald.
A Surrey County Council spokesman said: "We are introducing double yellow lines to maintain road safety and sight lines, and to allow for vehicles to pass each other further down Charles Street. It is also to allow large vehicles access to and from Compass House."

As a Chertsey Resident living on London Street, business needs in Chertsey take president over residents needs. Over the past 10 years London Street parking has reduced due to extension of yellow lines to allow for easy access in and out of offices. It is high time that Surrey County Council consider Residential parking as a priority.
Consider yourself lucky. I live in a corner house and I've been trying to get a no parking zone put down the side of my house for ages as people park there and it's a nuisance. They block the footpath, block the path of vehicles and I get no privacy in my garden. I would gladly have yellow lines put there to stop the nuisance but neither Runnymede or Surrey County Councils are interested and have quoted a lack of funds as the reason. Double yellow lines or double standards?
It would seem SCC put them where they are not needed and fail to put them where they are needed.
Buildings are expensive and not everybody can buy it. However, mortgage loans was invented to help people in such cases.
