Merry Christmas to all our readers and advertisers from everyone at the Surrey Herald.
THE Independent Police Complaints Commission has said it does not need to investigate an incident in which a BMW driver crashed and died on the M25 shortly after police had tried to stop him.
The victim's car collided with the back of an articulated lorry on the clockwise carriageway near Chertsey.
The motorway was closed for several hours between junctions 10 and 11 following the crash at around 11.55pm on Monday (December 19).
THE speed limit around a notorious Chertsey accident blackspot is to be reduced from 70mph to 50mph.
The A320 Staines Road, which runs from Chertsey and past Thorpe Park, will be given its new limit next year after the move was approved by Surrey County Council's local committee for Runnymede on Monday.
The road has been the scene of a number of crashes over the years, particularly at its junction with St Ann's Road. Earlier this year a car collided with the wall of a bungalow.
DEDICATED staff from a Chertsey gym used pedal power to raise money for Sport Relief at a supermarket last Thursday and Friday (October 27 and 28).
Iain Hayes, 18, a trainer at the River Bourne Club, sacrificed a day off work to join colleague Sofia Hernandez, 19, to cycle on an exercise bike at the Tesco store in Addlestone.
HOMELESSNESS in Runnymede is at its worst level for four years with temporary council accommodation almost full to capacity.
In the past year the borough council accepted responsibility to find homes for 49 homeless cases, whether individuals, couples or families, compared to just 15 cases in 2008/09.
And as a result the local authority has almost filled its 65 available special-purpose housing units, with only three currently sitting empty.
RUNNYMEDE Borough Council has rejected plans which would have provided its tenants with free electricity.
The council had the option to instal solar (photovoltaic) panels on its buildings and receive Feed In Tariffs in exchange; cash from the Government in return for going green.
However, the £12million-plus price tag to fit the panels to the 1,161 properties and 84 communal areas deemed eligible proved too prohibitive.
A WOMAN escaped serious injury after her car rolled over in Chertsey's Eastworth Road this morning.
The accident happened just after 9.20am on Tuesday when the Silver VW Golf collided with a parked black BMW and rolled.

Fire crews and police attended and got the woman out inside of 10 minutes.
The road is currently blocked

THIS year's Chertsey Show will honour a young woman who passed away earlier this year at the age of just 23.
Jenny Bucknell was the niece of show director Dorian Mead and was a popular part of the show's ground crew for many years.
Tragically, Miss Bucknell died in hospital in Cardiff, where she was being treated after complaining of headaches, on April 5 this year.

PLOUGHMAN from across Britain and Ireland descended on Surrey for the annual Chertsey Ploughing Match on Bank Holiday Monday.
A new Guiness World Record was set at the 168-year-old event held at Wey Manor Farm in New Haw in perfect ploughing conditions when 24 two-wheel tractors took to the field at the same time.
To set the record the organisers of the match had to have at least 20 Iron Horse-style tractors plough the field at a depth of 5ins sustained for five minutes.
