Age Concern Runnymede has raised £100,000 for two brand new mini buses, which are to be brought into service from Friday October 31.
Helping to provide a wide range of outreach services for older people in Runnymede, Age Concern use the mini buses to take people on outings by collecting and dropping them at their door.
The £100,000 was succesfully raised through fundraising efforts and grants, which have helped to replace two ageing minibuses.
"The new minibus will enable us to expand this valuable service, says Eleanor Jones, Chief Officer of Age Concern Runnymede, "We are very grateful to everyone who has supported our fundraising appeal, especially The Schroder Trust, Chertsey Combined Charity and Feoffees of Chertsey Market."
A majority of the groups using the mini buses are community based such as the Runnymede Dolphins, Woodham and New Haw Silver Club as well as residential and nursing homes. Last year, Age Concern Runnymede enabled 59 groups to go on over 600 trips.
Although the £100,000 mark has been reached, another £50,000 is needed to provide a third minibus
The first of the new vehicles will be launched on Friday at 3.00pm in the car park of the Orchard Day Centre, in Staines Lane, Chertsey.
