Brigid Strowbridge explores the ultimate 18th century fashion must-have, the sack back gown, at Chertsey Museum on Saturday 13 March, 1.30 to 3.30pm. A must for the fashion enthusiast, the event is aimed at all interest levels and includes a chance to handle and try on hand made replicas. £3.50 per person; prior booking required as space is limited,

The Chertsey Museum will be holding two craft activity sessions on the theme of espionage on Tuesday February 16 from 11-12.30pm or 2-3:30pm.

For 5-12 year olds.

Cost: £4.50

A karaoke pop quiz is being held at White Lodge Centre, Chertsey, on Friday January 29.

Budding singers and those who think they know their music are invited to make up a team of eight to take part.

The quiz starts at 7.30pm at the Rendezvous building in the Holloway Hill centre.

Museum carol service

Chertsey Museum is holding a carol service on Monday December 14 evening at St Peter's Shared Church in Windsor Street, Chertsey.

TwoDames200.jpgThe nights are drawing in, Christmas is lurking round the corner, it must be Pantomime time (Oh, no, it isn't! Oh, yes, it is!) This year Thorpe Players have a brand new, credit-crunch busting panto, "Jack and the Queenstalk", which has been specially written for them with two Dames (Buy One Get One Free)! With a large cast, it is full of action, jokes, colour and singing, and has lots of opportunities for the audience to boo, cheer and join in. The story follows the well-known tale, but with plenty added: extra characters, the two Dames for the price of one, a beanstalk, and a giant - well, a gigantic Queen anyway! - and is suitable for children of all ages, from 4 to 104.

"Jack and the Queenstalk" takes place in Thorpe Village Hall, which is just the right size for such a show, as it is not too big to frighten the little ones. Performances are on Friday 27th, Saturday 28th November, Friday 4th and Saturday 5th December at 8pm, with matinees at 2.30pm on the Saturdays. Tickets are just £4 for children and £8 for adults, with family tickets (2 of each) at £20, and further discounts for larger groups. For bookings and enquiries phone 07923 583295. The show is suitable for all the family, so if you can't borrow a child, come along and be one yourself!

Little Joshua Deller, who is 17-months-old, and mum Amy, were guests of DJ Stuart Jones at the Radio Wey studios on November 4 based at St Peter's Hospital in Guildford Road, Chertsey.

Spooky half-term adventures

Spooky half-term adventures are being organised for half term week around Runnymede.

The Halloween themed activities, designed to be fun rather than scary, will be running from Monday October 26 to Friday 30, and has been organised by Runnymede Council.

The first activity is a skeleton scavenger hunt and games at St Ann's Hill, Chertsey on Monday, but there will also be Halloween costume making, arts and crafts and party games.

To round off the week, there will be two sessions of free choice play, where youngsters can choose what they do, and can even have the chance to explore Chertsey Museum.

Emma Parnell, the activity co-ordinator at Runnymede Council, said: "These play sessions are held throughout the year, and have been really popular so far.
"There is something for every age group, ability and interest. We want to encourage children to use their imagination, try something new, make friends, be challenged, and above all, have fun."

A stand-up comedy night is being held at The Crown Hotel, Chertsey on Thursday October 29.

Free swimming lessons

Free swimming lessons are being held during half term week at the River Bourne Health Club in Chertsey.

The lessons are being run by Seriously Fun, the UK's leading swimming school, from October 26 to 30.

Classes suit all abilities with a maximum of six children per class, and each lesson lasts 30 minutes.

Cracker of a night

Tickets have now gone on sale for the annual White Lodge Centre fundraiser, Chesney's Christmas Cracker.

Nineties pop star and patron of the charity, Chesney Hawkes, will be hosting the fourth cracker at Club One in Ascot on Sunday December 13.

The line-up has yet to be announced, but previous years have seen Jason Donovan and Nik Kershaw performing to raise money for the centre in Holloway Hill Chertsey.
